Intern Credential Program

Earn an Associate’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University’s College for America program. College for America’s project-based approach engages students in real world projects that are directly applicable to the K-12 classroom. The online, competency-based model allows students to work at the pace that is best for you – Advance quickly through familiar subjects and engage more deeply in less familiar areas of study. SNHU and College for America are non-profit and fully accredited, meaning that federal financial aid is available and your degree will be recognized nationwide.

Earn a California Teaching Credential through San Diego Unified School District’s Internship Program. Teaching credentials may be earned in special education, multiple subjects (elementary), and multiple subjects with a bilingual authorization (BCLAD). Internships occur in the final year of the SDTA program. Internships are paid teaching placements with district supervision and support. A preliminary teaching credential will be awarded upon successful completion of the internship year. The preliminary credential authorizes the SDTA graduate to teach throughout California and may be transferred to other states nationwide.

Teaching Credential

The best preparation is to learn by doing! Engage in a series of work based learning experiences through our classroom apprenticeship model. Work alongside expert educators, learning from their model as you gradually gain greater independence and responsibility in the classroom. During the pre-intern stage of the program work as a paid special education aide, bilingual classroom aide, or after school support provider. During the intern stage of the program teach full time in a San Diego Unified classroom with district supervision and support. Opportunities may also be available to apprentice in non-traditional settings such as outdoor education, maker spaces, and learning labs.

Classroom Apprenticeship

Be supported along every step of your journey to becoming a teachers. Our academic coaches and career mentors will work with you to tailor a program that fits your schedule and professional interests.
